Write & Coach From Outside the Hurricane (Start Here)
The lesson that transformed my worst experience into the foundation of Resonant Edge.
If you’re new START HERE and welcome.
Resonant Edge is for quietly capable people carrying responsibility they never consciously chose.
Some inherited a family business.
Some inherited expectations.
Some inherited a role they’ve quietly outgrown.
Everything I write comes back to one question:
What is actually yours to carry?
I didn’t arrive at that question through theory.
I arrived there by asking the wrong one for thirteen years.
Everyone tells you to write authentically.
Write while it’s fresh.
Capture the emotion before it fades.
I believed that too.
Then I lived through the experience that taught me something far more useful.
I no longer write or coach from inside the hurricane.
Inside the hurricane, everything feels urgent.
Every conversation feels decisive.
Every emotion feels like truth.
When you’re inside the storm, you can only see the rain.
You can’t yet see the weather.
So, hello friend, I am Jamie.
For thirteen years I ran my family’s orthodontic practice.
I grew it.
Led it.
Carried it.
Quietly letting my own health, marriage and sense of self erode underneath it because it never occurred to me that the weight was optional.
When it finally ended, I wanted to write immediately.
I had a hundred versions in my head before I’d even left the building.
Almost everything I would have published that week would have been true.
And almost all of it would have been incomplete.
Not because the facts were wrong.
Because I couldn’t yet recognise what had actually happened.
I could only feel it.
That distinction changed how I write.
And eventually, how I coach.
Inside the hurricane every thought demands expression.
Outside the hurricane, patterns begin to appear.
Recognition needs enough distance for experience to become understanding.
That is where I try to write from.
That is where I try to coach from.
There was a night I found myself curled up on the floor, sobbing, convinced I had lost everything.
A few days later I wrote a LinkedIn post called I Just Wanted a Dad, Not a Boss.
Looking back now, I don’t regret writing it.
I understand why I needed to.
But I can also see that it wasn’t written in service.
It was written from a wound that hadn’t yet become wisdom.
That difference matters.
One principle has guided everything I’ve written since.
If I notice something once, I become curious.
Twice, I pay attention.
When I see the same pattern repeated across my own life, coaching conversations and the people I write for...
only then does it deserve a name.
Only then do I trust myself to write about it.
Experience earns explanation.
Not the other way around.
That’s why Resonant Edge exists.
Not to tell people what to do.
To help them recognise what they’ve been living inside.
The responsibility that quietly became identity.
The authority they borrowed from someone else’s judgement.
The decision they’ve already recognised but don’t yet trust themselves to make.
Recognition comes before advice.
Because advice given before recognition often becomes just another borrowed authority.
Everything here is built around one belief:
You cannot live from your own ground while you’re carrying what was never yours.
Every essay explores that idea from a different angle.
Sometimes through leadership.
Sometimes through family.
Sometimes through work.
Sometimes through writing itself.
Where to begin
If this resonates, I’d suggest these essays next.
You Don't Have A Time Problem. You Have A Responsibility Problem
Everyone keeps telling you to protect your time.
The Act of Returning
There is one practice that has changed my life more than any framework, strategy, or decision I’ve ever made.
If one article isn’t enough
Sometimes recognition happens through reading.
Sometimes it happens in conversation.
Signal Fire is a 60-minute coaching conversation for quietly capable leaders, founders and successors who know something feels heavier than it should but can’t yet see exactly why.
Together we’ll separate what is genuinely yours from what you’ve been carrying for everyone else.
No performance.
No fixing.
No generic advice.
Just one honest conversation.
If we discover there’s deeper work to do, Signal Fire becomes the first session of The Crossing.
The Crossing is my 90-day journey for people ready to stop carrying what was never theirs and begin leading, deciding and living from their own ground.

The quality of a life isn’t determined by how often you lose yourself.
It’s determined by how quickly you find your way back.
You already know more than you think you do.
The difficult part is rarely deciding.
It’s trusting what you’ve already recognised.
Sometimes another article isn’t what you need.
Sometimes you need another person to help you hear yourself again.
Signal Fire is a one-to-one conversation for quietly capable people carrying responsibility, decisions or identities that no longer feel like their own.
